|The giant wagging finger of Jim Flaherty|
Jim Flaherty is an ass, in case you weren't aware.
The federal Conservative Minister of Finance, as well as a former Finance Minister for Ontario and runner-up choice for Premier in 2002 and 2004 among Ontario's Progressive Conservatives, has decided that he, not the Premier of Ontario nor the current Finance Minister, has the right to set our provincial government's priorities. Only the Flaherty can judge whether or not raising Ontario's sales tax to pay for much needed infrastructure and transportation improvements is a worthy idea, and the Flaherty does not approve! Even though he is creating his own strawmen to burn.
Sigh. I know its probably more rhetoric on his part than anything else, but what a hypocrite this guy is! He was a part of a government in Ontario that constantly clashed with the federal government, then led by the Liberals, over everything from equalization to Kyoto. The Harris government was all about provincial rights and autonomy, and Flaherty was knee-deep in the Common Sense Revolution. He was the bloody Deputy Premier for a year!
What happened, Jim? You get into federal government and all of the sudden when Ontario wants to assert its priorities, and said priorities include *discussing* the possibility of raising revenues to solve one of the biggest issues facing its government, you turn into some rabid control freak dictating provincial policy from Ottawa.
Is it because Queen's Park is led by the Liberals? Is your boss worried about how an HST rise may affect him? Or do you just want to try and boost your flagging government's image in the eyes of Ontarians? Lord knows you're not doing anything to help Ontario, given that we've screamed about the equalization imbalance for years yet you act like no one has said a thing. Don't get me started on the many fuck-ups during your stint in the federal government so far. I remember the payroll tax rise you foisted upon us.
Flaherty, you need to get off your high horse. This is Ontario's decision to make, not yours. If you'd like to challenge Wynne's authority, then get rid of that loser currently occupying the Ontario PC Leader's Office and call for an election. If you can't be bothered with that, then don't bother us.
