Cynicism at the top

When you have a government that changes the name of the citizen's government to a partisan one, a government whose Immigration Minister sends out partisan fundraising letters, or a government that shuffles media out of the room before their opposition can heard, what do you think the feeling inside this government is at the moment?

The cynicism in Ottawa right now is just staggering, especially within the government. It's a really sad day when the biggest news coming out of the government isn't new trade deals and action on the world stage, but whispers of fear-mongering, of Ministers committing fraud, of staffers being fired to save their ministers... pathetic, really. After only 5 years this government has gone from one of semi-bountiful hope about greater accountability and integrity after a few years of a somewhat corrupt government, to something that is about as inspiring and innocent as the Devil himself.

If we're going to an election, I hope Canadians realize at least one thing: this doesn't have to go on. You can change how governments work, you just need to start caring. It won't work every time, but your voices do have an effect. They need to, unless people truly do want this sort of what I'll quite frankly call corruption to go on.

But, I don't hold my breath on that expectation. Even if the Liberals get in, will it change? Will people even care enough to try? I hate to say it, but probably not. C'est la vie, I suppose.
